Noonan Hall of Famers 2001-2019

Check out this great video

2022 Noonan Hall of Fame

Dan Steele (Steely Dan)

On October 8th, 2022 at the Closing Ceremonies of the 22nd Annual Danny Noonan Invitational, Mr. Dan Steele was inducted as the 18th member of the Noonan Hall of Fame.

Steely Dan (pictured with his dad Tommy on the right) has done it all at the Noonan. He has the 6th most wins in Noonan Cup history, but the golf is secondary to his love of the event. He is always super positive, and signifies what the Noonan is all about. Friendship and brotherhood. He has Captained several teams over the years, including 2022 where his team charged from behind to win 7.5 of the last 10 points to share the team victory. Steely has been named to the all decade team (2010-2019), won a Horserace title in 2016 and is one of two players to win TWO Mike Clem Spirit Stein Awards including the original honor in 2012.

Dan has attended the last 13 Noonans, one of the longest active streaks in Noonan history. Steely brings such a loveable, engaging attitude that makes the Noonan great. We are lucky to have you Steely, and you deserve this honor as much as anyone in history. Congrats!!

2021 Noonan Hall of Fame

Jim Fricke

Jim Fricke has been a staple of the Noonan over the last 21 years. Jim is one of the original 16 attendees to the inaugural Noonan back in 2001, and has attended just about every event over the last 10 years.

In fact, he has attended 12 Noonans through 2021. Jim is always up for a good time, and always has a smile on his face and ready to have fun. He also plays a large part in making the Noonan a success over the last few years by helping to bring drinks, food, supplies etc as the "Mule" who drives to Mesquite for us.

Jim also is pretty decorated in terms of Noonan history and awards. Jim won the inaugural Noonan Horserace back in 2002, and also earned the Mike Clem Spirit Stein in 2015. On top of that, he has exceled on the golf course, posting a 17-14-3 Noonan Cup record from '05-'21.

You always know when "Jimmy Vegas" is in the building, and we hope that continues for years to come! Congrats to the 2021 Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Jim Fricke!

2020 Noonan Hall of Fame

Dan Gorman

On October 10th, 2020 at the Closing Ceremonies of the 20th Annual Danny Noonan Invitational, Mr. Dan Gorman was inducted as the 16th member of the Noonan Hall of Fame.

Dan is one of the most decorated Noonan attendees of all time. Dan has not only served as a Noonan Captain a record 4 times, he and Tim Botkin are the only two people to be named to both Noonan All-Decade teams. Dan's 13 Noonan appearance are 9th all time, and he also won a Horserace Championship back in 2016.

However, I would say Dan's contributions go way beyond his Noonan accomplishments. More importantly, he is one of the most well regarded people in our group. Dan is one of the most genuine, fun loving guys you'll ever meet. Everyone wants to play in a foursome with him, and Dan connects with everyone he spends time with. We are lucky to have him at this event, and even more lucky to call him our good friend. Congrats, Dan! You still can't move up a tee box yet, but we love you anyway :).

2019 Noonan Hall of Fame

Scott Luinstra

In 2019, it had been three years since someone was enshrined into the Noonan Hall of Fame. It was time for a very worthy candidate to be elected into the Hall of Fame.

This Hall of Famer has attended almost every Noonan in the last 10 years, and has made it to 13 of the 19 Noonans. He is known to be one of the best golfers ever to play in the Noonan, as evidenced by his 29-13-4 Noonan Cup record through 2019. But more than a great golfer, he has a great heart. We are very proud to induct Scott Luinstra into the Noonan Hall of Fame. Congrats, Scooter! You deserve it!

Scott Luinstra (pictured to the right) has contributed to many a story at the Noonan. This 2010 photo is of Scott and Mark Smith (HOF '11), who were Captains at the 10th Annual Noonan in Primm.

UPDATE: Scootie added to illustrious Noonan career as he won his 1st Horserace Title and 1st Gopher Award in 2020!

2016 Noonan Hall of Fame

Mike Daum

The 10th Noonan Hall of Fame class was enshrined on May 15th, 2016. This year's enshrinee has attended almost every Noonan over the past decade, and is a true gentlemen, although not really a true golfer.

Even though he's not known for his prowess on the golf course, he won a Horserace Title in 2009 after shooting a 125 in the morning round. More fitting, he's also been the recipient of the Mike Clem Spirit Stein Award in 2014. This individual is known for the best sense of humor in Noonan history (unofficially of course), and is an all around great guy. Very proud to induct none other than Mike Daum, the Clown Prince of the Noonan, into the Noonan Hall of Fame. Mike, you are truly deserving. Congrats!

2015 Noonan Hall of Fame

Cal Reese

The 9th Noonan Hall of Fame class was enshrined on May 16th, 2015. This gentlemen has been a staple at the Noonan over the past 12 years, and his love of golf is unparalleled. He's competed for a record three 2nd place finishes in the Horse Race, and has even taken a public nap or nine during the event. Our newest entry in the Noonan Hall of Fame is none other than Cal Reese. Congrats on this great honor, Cal....you are finally a Winner :)!

UPDATE: Cal Reese and 2008 HOF'er Gerry Fricke won their first Horserace title in 2018!

2014 Noonan Hall of Fame

Ryan Hadley

The 8th Noonan Hall of Fame class was enshrined on May 17th, 2014. This year, we had a Craig Biggio type enter the Hall of Fame...a quiet, yet consistent participant the last 10 years to the Noonan, our newest entry in the Noonan Hall of Fame is none other than Ryan Hadley (pictured on the left).

Ryan, known for years as CH's friend, has developed his own reputation the last couple of years by battling hard in the Horserace and on the craps table. Congrats on this great honor, Ryan....from now on we will refer to CH as Ryan's friend (or at least until next year's Noonan)!

2013 Noonan Hall of Fame

CH Meili

The 7th Noonan Hall of Fame class was enshrined on May 18th, 2013. One individual with a rich history in the Noonan was enshrined. CH Meili, a long time staple at the Noonan, was inducted in the Noonan Hall of Fame.

CH has attended every Noonan since 2004, and has played an integral role in the shaping of the event. Not only is his attendance consistent, but CH has won a record four (4) Horserace titles over the years and has been presented the Gopher award twice (most recently in 2013). CH is well deserving of this honor and takes his place among the other Noonan greats! Congrats CH!

UPDATE: As of 2020, CH has added to his record Horserace titles as he has now won an unbelievable 7 TITLES!!

2012 Noonan Hall of Fame

Tim Monk Sr. & Mike Clem

The 6th Noonan Hall of Fame class was enshrined on May 19th, 2012. This year, there were two very special inductees, Mr. Tim Monk Sr. (pictured 2nd from the left) and Mr. Mike Clem. Interestingly enough, these two individuals are no longer regular attendees of the Noonan, but both have made a huge impact on making the Noonan what it is today. Mr. Tim Monk Sr. actually made a guest appearance to the 2012 Noonan, and he had no idea that he was to become our latest Hall of Famer. Tim attended the first seven (7) Noonans and was an instrumental part of shaping this event. Tim was the first recipient of the prestigous Gopher Award, and his famous quote "Pai Gow, Everybody Wins!" still resonates at the now destroyed Oasis Casino in Mesquite. Tim is a true Southern Gentlemen and is truly deserving of this prestigous honor. Anyone that attends the Noonan even though they don't play golf is a Hall of Famer.

UPDATE: Tim Sr. passed away in 2015, and the Gopher Award has been renamed the "Tim Monk Sr. Gopher Award".

UPDATE: For more details on Mike Clem, refer to the Mike Clem Spirit Stein link.

2011 Noonan Hall of Fame

Mark Smith

The 5th Hall of Fame Class in Noonan History was inducted on May 14th, 2011. The 8th member of the Noonan Hall of Fame is Mark "Smitty" Smith. It can be argued that this is long overdue and that Mark is one of the main reasons the Noonan exists! Mark used to have a golf trip to Vegas that was similar to the Noonan with his college buddies, and this concept inspired his brother in law, Joe Fricke to form his own golf event...and the rest has been Noonan History! Smitty had attended almost every Noonan since its inception in 2001, with only a broken wrist and a trip overseas standing in the way of his perfect attendance. Never will you meet a more competitive and fun individual, which is what the Noonan is all about! Congrats Smitty, you've earned this distinct honor!!! Now that you are retired, you just have to win the Gopher award and your life will be complete!

Here is Smitty (pictured on the left) enjoying the Tony Roma's night at the Noonan 2011 with fellow Hall of Famer, Joe Fricke.

2010 Noonan Hall of Fame

Ted Buck

The Fourth Hall of Fame Class in Noonan History was inducted on May 15th, 2010 at Smith & Wolensky's Restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip. The newest member of the Noonan Hall of Fame was none other than Ted Buck. Ted is the 7th member of the Noonan Hall of Fame, and deservedly so. Ted has attended every Noonan except the first, and he only missed that because the Swede brothers didn't give him an invite! Ted, who has long been known for cashing big every year on the golf course, has used his skills as a trial attorney to negotiate a questionable handicap every year. His Greg Normanlike straw hat is one of the key symbolic staples that has endured over the last 10 years. The Noonan wouldn't be the same without "Ten Bucks", and we are proud to have him take our money every year. I was going to quote him from one of his many speeches at previous Noonan events, but I quite frankly don't understand most of the big lawyer words he utilizes.  It also won't hurt having a major trial attorney on the Hall of Fame committee in case our group runs into ever possible litigation down the road. Congrats, Ted!!!

2009 Noonan Hall of Fame

Ron Maspero

The 3rd Hall of Fame Class in Noonan history was inducted on May 16th, 2009. It was fitting that one of the elder statesman of the group received induction. Ron Maspero, who has attended every Noonan but one, was the annointed the 6th member of the Noonan Hall of Fame. The Godfather has been a staple at the Noonan over the last nine years. I would say he's a grinder on the golf course, but he's even more of a grinder in the bar and at the casino!! He opitimizes the Noonan and can keep up with anyone in the group, in addition to all of the friends he has brought into the Noonan over the years!

2008 Noonan Hall of Fame

Gerry Fricke & Frank Swedenborg

Enshrined in the Hall of Fame were none other than Gerry Fricke & Frank Swedenborg. These old timers are directly and/or indirectly responsible for almost everyone that attends the Noonan, and they have both been solid participants since the early days of the event.

Gerry, known for his frequent net eagles on the course and his ever present search for good beer was extremely honored with this new induction. Aside from his wife of 51 years, his nine children and twenty-some grandchildren, I’m guessing this is one of the highlights of his life (OR AT LEAST HIS GOLF CAREER!!).

Frank "Old" Swedenborg has been a mainstay at the Noonan since 2001 and amazed everyone with his incredible golf play in 2008. A much improved Old Swede played solid golf and still maintained his dancing skills and hairdo throughout the event this year. Unbelievably, we managed to find a "bust" of Old Swede (see photo on the right) to commemorate his enshrinement to the Noonan Hall of Fame this year.

Congrats to these two men…they are well deserving of the honor to choose future Hall of Famers in the Noonans to come, which quite frankly is really the only benefit to being in the Hall of Fame.

2007 Noonan Hall of Fame

Tim Botkin & Greg Swedenborg

On Saturday, May 19th, 2007 at the official Noonan Awards Dinner, the inaugural inductees to the Danny Noonan Invitational Hall of Fame were announced.

It was not a big surprise that the first inductees into the Noonan Hall of Fame were Mr. Tim "Ace" Botkin (pictured below after his 2006 Hole in One) and Mr. Greg "Big Swede" Swedenborg (pictured on the right). Each of these guys, along with your Commissioner are the only people who have attended the Noonan every year since its inception in 2001. They say you can't award people just for longevity (i.e. Don Sutton), but it is an accomplishment to get to here every year.

Part of the reason the Noonan is such a great event is because of Tim and Big Swede. They both have done tremendous things over the years to make the Noonan memorable: Tim's hole in one, Greg's exploits in the casino and large expletives on the golf course, etc... Congrats fellas, you just made history!
